What a fabulous time we had on the ice! This was very much a collaborative event. The brainchild of local adaptive athlete Maria Velat, the community got behind the idea and made it a spectacular reality. ELK partnered with Michigan Tech Recreation (who donated the ice), MTU Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology (who paid to ship in the sleds), Superior Alliance for Independent Living (who sponsors the Sledcats) and the Marquette Sledcat Sled-hockey team. There were well over 100 participants - a turn out more than any of us anticipated. We had volunteers from several fraternities and sororities, as well as DPT and PTA students from both MTU and Finlandia. Half way through, and unexpected by all - the Michigan Tech hockey players showed up and played along with us. All ages and abilities were represented, and it was phenomenal.
